Create something truly unique for your wedding!

March 12, 2012 by Erika Langley

With some much needed sun and ‘wedding season’ within our sights, brides are getting their appointments  booked for their wedding dress alterations and  bridesmaids, mother of the bride/groom are beginning to feel the urgency and thinking hard of the finishing touches and alterations to be done to complete their outfits.

Whether it simply be achieving the perfect fit to ensure guests are looking their best, or the addition of some beads or in (mother or the bride) Patricia’s case, turning  a fairly straight, beaded  dress into a handkerchief dress. there is no limit to the ways in which you can make an ‘off the peg’ outfit something truly unique.

Many brides, sensibly aware of our changeable weather, contact me to have a bolero made. This can be anything from a pretty lace bolero with cap sleeves just to cover up a little or long fitted lace sleeves with buttons at the wrist (think Kate Middleton style, this look has become very popular since the Royal wedding!) or if you are looking to have a bolero for warmth, a lined satin long sleeved bolero is a great choice, perhaps with a coloured lining for a ‘flash’ of colour. This was an option Tammy (bride) recently opted for, choosing a wonderful dark copper satin to pick up on the sash colour of her wedding dress. It was perfect for a February wedding, adding warmth and colour.

Spring weddings!

January 21, 2012 by Erika Langley

Well, we’re half way through an unseasonably warm January so I find myself thinking of the fresh warm days of  Spring that are (hopefully!) just around the corner.  And now that Christmas is quickly being forgotten and the last dregs of Christmas alcohol drunk, it’s time to make the most of every glimmer of sun and get thinking about the upcoming spring weddings!

I’ve noticed Spring looks set for pretty vintage-esque florals on chiffon, organza, ranging from the dusky pink, sage green and ivory. Within gorgeous feminine florals, (be it truly modern romantic or a perhaps the subtler monochrome florals) it’s a trend thats great for your flowergirls through to your bridesmaids. Mother of the bride/groom could pull off the style in a pretty shift dress or flowing organza coat…Just a thought..

Anyway, wedding dress alterations are going extremely well this week, it’s been a very busy week booking appointments, NOT that one is complaining  of the work, mind you! :)   It is time to ‘get with the times’ – I am working on getting some more recent pictures of brides on the website, with some of the lovely comments I have had from previous customers, reviews go a long way these days. Not only that, you can find me on facebook! (Any ‘likes’ very much appreciated!)

If you are one awaiting a reply, I will get back to you this weekend,I promise!

That said, I must crack on with these dress alterations!

til next time,

my first blog post!

December 6, 2011 by Erika Langley

It’s only been nine short weeks since my husband and I tied the knot ourselves. And now I understand more than ever a bride’s desire to have the ‘perfect’ day and have everything running smoothly throughout the entrance and ceremony and beyond…

Though we had a very private ceremony (Just the two of us on one of Mauritius’ white sandy beaches..Bliss!) I still wanted everything to be just so, with Pachbel’s Cannon to enter, wearing my stunning Jenny Packham gown, and my wonderful man waiting for me, I couldn’t of been happier to be having such a relaxed wedding.

Did I miss having Bridesmaids and all the rest of  ’it’? hmm,a little but  maybe not the bridesmaids dress alterations!

But with Christmas just round the corner, my mind drifts to the new year and with a new wave of customers requiring a Dressmaker, I am looking forward to the many projects to come.
